WorkPlay 05:23

It is difficult to focus in an age of instant information and immediate communication, but it is necessary to eliminate distractions to concentrate on what is truly important in life. WorkPlay is an interactive installation focusing on this concept. Workplay is a 100' long balance beam with an 8-channel fixed media sound art composition. The beam will be approximately 6” wide and ideally at least 100’ long. The steel beam is gold-leafed to symbolize distractions that stem from empty entertainment and the pursuit of money. The sound art is composed from audio samples of the distracting ring tones, message alerts, alarms, blips, and bleeps that emanate from ubiquitous mobile devices. The goal is for the user to actually balance on the beam and attempt to walk across its entire length while experiencing the distractions now common to everyday life. WorkPlay was a temporary installation at Installation Nation at the Indianapolis Art Center in Indianapolis, IN. In order to focus on what is truly important in life it is necessary to tune out what can get in the way.
